Frequently Asked Questions

On this page, you will find answers to some of the most popular questions asked by students. Please be sure you are reading the answers for the correct campus hosting the program you plan to attend. For example, if the Daytona Beach Campus is hosting the program, please check the Daytona Beach section for their questions and answers. If you plan to attend a Worldwide hosted program though, be sure to read their responses to the questions. Please Note: All ERAU Students, regardless of Home Campus, may apply attend any Study Abroad/Study America Experience!

What deadlines do I need to know?
There are 3 groupings of Study Abroad Programs, the deadlines for each type of program within each grouping can be found below:

  • Exchange Programs
    • Outgoing ERAU Students
      • Bilateral
        • Fall Term/Academic Year: last Friday in March
        • Spring Term: fourth Friday of September
      • GE3: Deadlines for a Global Engineering Education Exchange (GE3) are earlier than for a Bi-Lateral Exchange.
        • Fall Term/Academic Year: Third Friday of February
        • Spring Term: third Friday of September
      • DAAD: Please contact our Exchange Coordinator for the deadlines.
    • Incoming Partner Students and Visiting/Fee Paying Students
      • Fall Semester/Academic Year: last Friday in March
      • Spring Semester: last Friday in October
  • Faculty-Led Summer Programs: The deadline to apply and cancel are the same day. Not all programs have the same deadline, so it is important that you check each program’s individual brochure to confirm the deadline. The below dates are the typical deadlines but make sure you check each program brochure to confirm the deadline.
    • Summer A: last Monday in February
    • Summer B: first Monday in March
  • Misc Programs: Check the individual program's brochure for the deadline.


Will the GI Bill cover my Study Abroad experience?
For the most current information, check with Veterans Affairs.

Does ERAU offer any internal scholarships for Study Abroad?
The Financing Your Time Abroad page will have the most up to date scholarship information, so be sure to check back there for new scholarship opportunities. If you have any further questions, contact the Office of Global Engagement (OGE) at goglobal@erau.edu for more details on applying.

How does Study Abroad affect my GPA?
Study Abroad does not have any impact on GPA. Students are only issued a Pass or Not Pass grade for participating in a Summer Study Abroad program. Please double check the grading policy on the program brochure for the program you wish to attend.
Passing is a C or above.

Will there be opportunities for exploring outside of class time?
Field trips are included in all programs. Students will have some free time and many programs have a three-day weekend.

What are the requirements to participate in a Study Abroad/Study America program?
There are different types of Study Abroad/Study America opportunities available for a student to attend, and each type of program has different requirements. The requirements for each type of program are below:

  • Faculty-Led Programs
    • Although "first come, first served" will not be strictly applied, applicants who apply earlier and meet the requirements will have priority over those who apply later. Date priority is given based on the date when the application is complete, not when it is initially submitted.
    • If a student has a GPA lower than 2.0, they will be admitted at the discretion of the OGE, their advisor, and the program's lead professor(s).
    • All applications will be reviewed by both the OGE and the Professor(s) leading the program, and Professors have the final word on who is admitted.  Professors may require supplemental information from applicants if they feel it necessary for application evaluation purposes. 
    • Students from other universities may participate in ERAU faculty led programs. However, they must apply for non-degree, temporary admission into ERAU and be considered ERAU students to do so. Application fees to ERAU will be waived as long as the student participates in a faculty-led program. Staff or family members of ERAU students may be considered on a case-by-case basis. If allowed to participate, program fees must be paid in advance at a date to be determined by the OGE.
    • Participants who do not need the credits offered by the program and who graduate before the program starts must pay the program fees and costs before the program begins at a date to be determined by the OGE.
    • Programs have been proposed but not all may necessarily be offered. Upon admission, you will be informed in a timely manner about the status of your particular program(s). Your acceptance into the program will be confirmed or denied as soon as possible after the application/cancellation deadline. Remember the application and cancellation deadline are the same day.
  • Exchange Programs
    • At least sophomore standing (exceptions may be made in unique circumstances)
    • Minimum 2.0 cumulative grade-point average (cGPA)
      • Please Note: Host universities may require a higher cGPA
    • Good Standing as an ERAU Student
    • Advisor Approval is required
    • WW students must do a temporary transfer to the Daytona Beach campus in order to participate in an exchange program.

Do I need to speak the language of the country(s) I will visit?
Faculty-led courses are taught in English by ERAU faculty.
Exchange programs are generally taught in English, unless the student is qualified to take courses in the host university home language.

What is the Cancellation Policy?
The Cancellation Policy is slightly different depending on the type of Study Abroad/Study America Program you are attending. Please see below for the differences:

  • Faculty-Led Programs: If you decide to cancel your participation in any program, you MUST submit a Study Abroad Cancellation Form 2_3_2022. Be aware that if you cancel after the program deadline, you will be charged and held responsible for a cancellation fee of at least $500 or more, depending on the costs incurred on your behalf. Remember, the last date to apply or to cancel is the same day.
  • If extenuating circumstances require the cancellation of a faculty-led program, ERAU will refund tuition costs, but will not be responsible for the program fee costs that are non-recoverable or personal expenses such as airline tickets that have been purchased in advance by students.
The Application and Cancellation Deadlines are the SAME DAY.
 
  • Exchange Program: If you decide to cancel your participation in an exchange program after you have been accepted, immediately notify the OGE. In the event of a cancellation, the application fee is non-refundable under any circumstance. It is your responsibility to contact the host university you applied to attend to let them know you will no longer be attending. If extenuating circumstances require the cancellation of an exchange program, ERAU will NOT be responsible for any non-recoverable or personal expenses such as VISAs or airline tickets that have been purchased in advance by students.

Worldwide
What deadlines do I need to know?
 

  • Application Deadline: February 24th, 2023.
  • Application Fee: $100.
  • Program Deposit: $400. (The deposit will be due no later than 10 Weeks Before Departure for students participating in Worldwide programs)
  • Program Cost: The remaining balance is due no later than May for the Summer A term and no later than July for the Summer B term.
  • Study abroad fees will be assessed to the student’s account in Campus Solutions
​How long is each program?

Programs run various lengths of time, depending on the program. Summer Study Abroad/Study America Programs typically last between 2-5 weeks.
 
What is my tuition rate for my study abroad program?
Each student pays the current study abroad tuition rate at their respective campus.
 
Can I use financial aid to study abroad?
Yes. Students enrolled in Study Abroad courses are awarded financial aid the same as; other WW courses. Financial aid is only awarded if the student has remaining eligibility. If a student has remaining eligibility and enrolls in a study abroad course, the student’s “Cost of Attendance” may be increased to accommodate any additional fees incurred during those terms. Student should reach out to their Financial Aid Counselor to see their eligibility for their study abroad program. Contact the Financial Aid Office for more information. 
 
Does my Tuition Assistance (TA) qualify for study abroad tuition?
DoD Tuition Assistance (TA) may cover the cost of tuition up to $250 per semester hour; students wanting to use DoD TA should contact wwva@erau.edu.
 
Will the GI Bill® cover my Study Abroad experience?
The GI Bill® may cover the cost of tuition, but it will not cover any Program Costs, Travel, or other Study Abroad Fees. For any questions regarding your VA benefits, contact wwva@erau.edu.  
 
Does ERAU offer any internal scholarships for Study Abroad/Study America?
Yes. ERAU Worldwide offers scholarships for Worldwide Students to participate in a Study Abroad/Study America program. The Financing Your Time Abroad page will have the most up-to-date scholarship information, so please reference the link above for new scholarship opportunities. How does Study Abroad/Study America affect my GPA?

What are the requirements to participate in a Worldwide Study Abroad program?
 
Students must have sophomore standing with at minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0.
Students must be in good standing with ERAU Worldwide Code of Conduct policies
Students must also have a current valid passport with an expiration date of 6 months beyond your estimated return date and/or Visa.
All applications will be reviewed by the OGE, The Dean of Students Office, and the Professor(s) leading the program. Professors have the final word on acceptance. Professors may require supplemental information from applicants if they feel it necessary for application evaluation purposes.

As a Worldwide student, can I only participate in Worldwide programs? No, Worldwide students can participate in any Faculty-Led Program offered through the Daytona Beach, Prescott, or Worldwide Campuses.
 
Where can I find a list of Worldwide Study Abroad Programs?
Worldwide study abroad program(s) will be listed in eUnion.
 
What is the Cancellation Policy?
You may cancel but not all money paid towards the Program Cost may be refunded. Students electing to cancel their program must email wwdos@erau.edu with the subject line of "Study Abroad Cancellation" along with a detailed explanation of why they are withdrawing from the program. Additionally, you agree to the following cancellation and refund policy:

  • 10 Weeks Before Departure: 100% refund
  • 8-9 Weeks Before Departure: 50% refund
  • 6-7 Weeks Before Departure: 25% refund
  • Less than 5 Weeks Before Departure: 0% refund
